Take off those socks, it’s 104 outside!!

That boy!  He loved those socks so much he wore them all day long…even though it was 104 outside!!  And, today he insisted on wearing them again because it’s picture day! LOL  I started to protest because (1) he wore them all day yesterday and (2) pictures are of your FACE – not your feet.  And then I remember you are only in first grade once…let it go Momma….let it go!  (sigh)

So, this is the only picture he and his socks would hold still for!

The August socks – aka J3’s Garter Rib Socks – for the “Sock A Month KAL” are DONE!!!

I finished them at Knit Night last night but when I got home, J3 was in bed already…so I showed them to him first thing this morning. They fit great! So great in fact, he never took them off! So, no photos until tonight – I hope. I want to photograph them outdoors so you all can see the great colors!

PHEW – glad they are done!! I’ll post details on the socks when I post the pictures!

Knitting News

  • Mystery Stole #3 – yep, I’m a quitter! I was going very slowly – and I was ok with that. But then when I saw the asymmetrical pattern, I lost interest in finishing. I’m just a little too much Bert in order to feel comfortable with it. I knew I’d never wear it. Don’t get me wrong – it’s beautiful – it’s just not for me!
  • So, I consoled myself with jumping onto another one! LOL The Secret of the Stole will start in October – and I’m going to try again! I know…it’s probably not wise…but it makes me happy!
  • J3’s socks – aka August’s socks for “Sock of the Month KAL” – I’m at the heels and my deadline is to have them done and photos taken by August 31 – that’s 7 days!
  • The Fetchings for my sister are going well…one left to do. I started it at Back to School night last night – and was knitting too tight (or maybe I grabbed the wrong needle??) and it’s significantly smaller. I’m going to need to frog it and start over.
  • Plugging away on my Boxers -ladies at Knit Night are starting to catch up with me – I’d better get more done!!
  • Oh! My boss found out she’s having a girl! Off to buy PINK yarn today!!

So, that is what is new with me on the knitting front. It’s been a tough week for me – not even time to knit like I wanted to! Next week will be better, or else!

Further Defeat….

Well, that didn’t work either! So, the feet are frogged (sob – 6 inches of stockinette gone in 10 seconds!)

So, we are starting over. I’m going to do something fun from my new “Sensational Knitted Socks” book and I’m going to enjoy it! Or else!

Admitting Defeat

It’s been 6 days since I got stuck on J3’s socks.  I can not find anything to help me understand what I’m doing wrong – so I’m giving up!  I’m going to use Knitty’s “Universal Toe-up Sock Pattern” with a short row heel and be done with it!  I just want to get it done now and if he’s got big roomy heels – who cares?!?!  (well, I do – but as I already said – I’m giving up)

For my local library

First, let me say that I love, love, love my library.  I love libraries in general…but my local library puts up with our knitting group for 2+ hours each week!  Yes, we are down in the small conference room – but one or more of them always pop in to see what we are knitting each week.  Someday I dream that we can teach one of them to knit but until then I was tickled to find this article online – do you think I should give them a copy?  I’m sure they read the Library Journal – I did and I was only a lowly assistant!

Expendable

Remember when I was unhappy with my knitting and decided the cure was a quick dishcloth?

expendable

Darn if it doesn’t work everytime! :-) I used some leftover red cotton I had laying around and dubbed it “Expendable“. Every Star Trek fan knows what that means! ;-)

So, Ruth and I joined SAM4 KAL – that’s Sock A Month #4 Knit along – and we’ve been amazed at people who are already DONE with their August socks. So, we challenged each other – well, she challenged me anyway ;-) – to get started today! So here is my proof:

The toes are done on some sock for J3 using Night Lights Superwash Merino from Cavyshops.
